Monument of Shaheed Habibur Rahman opens at RU today
A monument of Shaheed Habibur Rahman, installed at the gate of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall of Rajshahi University, will be inaugurated today commemorating his martyrdom in 1971.
Habibur Rahman who was a professor of Mathematics department of the university, famed for his voice against wrongs, directly took part in protest against the atrocities of Pakistani army in March 1971. On April 15, Pakistani Army led by Brigadier Aslam and Col Taj launched a drive at his house on the campus and picked him up but he never came back.
The monument named “Bidhargo” (a house of wisdom) is adorned with a sculpture image of Shaheed Habibur Rahman.
