Eight killed in road crashes
Eight people were killed and 21 others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenidah, Manikganj, Pabna, Chittagong and Narayanganj yesterday.
Our correspondent from Jhenidah reports: A man was killed and 10 others were injured at Balarampur bazaar of Kaliganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Younus Ali, 32, son of Akbar Ali of Khalkula village of Kaliganj upazila.
Locals and police said the accident took place when two three-wheelers, locally known as Nasiman, collided head-on at Balarampur bazaar, leaving eleven injured.
The injured were admitted to Jhenidah, Kaliganj and Jessore hospital. Of them, Younus succumbed to his injuries at Jessore hospital.
Our correspondent from Manikganj says: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was killed in an accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of police line in Manikganj yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, assistant sub-inspector of police of Manikganj Sadar Police Station and resident of Bashail in Tangail.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joydev Bhadra told this correspondent that the accident occurred around 11:30am when a Dhaka-bound bus of Hanif Enterprise crushed him while he was entering the highway riding on a motorcycle from the police line.
The seriously injured ASI was immediately taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the ASP said.
Police seized the bus but its driver and other staff managed to flee.
Our correspondent from Pabna adds: Two people including a woman were killed while 10 others injured as a CNG run three wheeler and a microbus collided head-on on Dhaka-Pabna highway at Rajapur yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Milon Pramanik, 32, driver of the three-wheeler, of village Kumilli and Shahanaz Parvin, 30, of village Hidaskol of Sadar upazila.
The injured passengers are admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital.
Our correspondent from Chittagong says: An ex-student of Chittagong University was killed and two others were injured as a private car and a truck collided head-on in Bhatiary area under Shitakunda Police Station in the port city yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Raju Chakrabarty, 28, son of Shyamol Chakrabarty of Bhatiary. The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
UNB from Narayanganj adds: Three people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Fatulla and Sonargaon upazila yesterday.
Witnesses said a Dhaka-bound bus from Comilla rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw instantly killing auto-rickshaw passengers Sayeed Hossain, 35, and an unidentified man aged about 55 in Kanchpur area in Sonargaon.
Critically injured auto-rickshaw driver was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In another accident a Dhaka-bound goods-loaded truck rammed into a roadside shop seriously injuring the owner in front of Kashipur Union Parishad in Fatulla.
The injured, Saddam Hossain, son of Syeed Ahmed of Kashipur of Fatulla died on way to DMCH.
