The other day the director of the film Rubaiyat Hussain while speaking on BBC TV about this film said that the story of a love affair between a Pakistani soldier and a Bengali girl shown in the film was her perspective as a woman of the terrible times that the Bengalis were going through then.
But unfortunately, the story did not click with the general public, because it was not at all plausible at that time. There was so much sufferings among the peoplewide spread killing, torture, rape, that were taking place all around that it was quite unthinkable that a Pakistani soldier would fall in love with a Bengali girl in such circumstances or vice versa. In fact, nobody heard of such an incident occurring during the Liberation War! It is more like a film made by a Pakistani from his own perspective!
