Two Indian ships set for Indo-Bangla joint exercise
Assistant Commandant of Vajra, one of the two visiting Indian Coast Guard ships, Ranpreet Singh yesterday briefed the journalists about the ins and outs of the ships.
Indian Coast Gourd ships “Vajra” and “Razia Sultana” arrived in Chittagong Port on Sunday for a four-day visit.
Ranpreet said the ships came from Orisa state of India to Bangladesh. They will stay here till April 28 and will take part in a joint exercise with Bangladesh Coast Guard, he added.
On Thursday morning, they will set for Myanmar for a four-day tour and will do the same as they have done in Bangladesh, Ranpreet said, adding that they will go to Andaman and Nikobar Archipelago where they will do routine patrol duty and then return back to home in Bishakhapatnam.
The main duties of the ships are to assist Indian Coast Guard in patrolling, search and rescue operations during peacetime, he said.
Ranpreet said the length of Vajra is 74.1 metres, breadth is 11.4 metres and mast height is 19.8 metres.
It can carry 125 sailors onboard, he said, adding that Vajra has eight officers and 82 sailors onboard.
He said the main armament and equipment of the ship are 30mm Medak Gun, External Fire Fighting System, Medium Machine Gun (MMG), Light Machine Gun (LMG), Short Machine Gun (SMG), Bridge Master Radars, PC Cranes and a HN2 Helicopter.
