Road crashes kill 9

Nine people were killed and 52 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Tangail, Benapole and Comilla yesterday. Our Mymensingh correspondent reports: At least four people were killed and 50 others injured in separate road accidents in the district yesterday. Three people including a female schoolteacher were killed and 50 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Mymensingh-Sherpur road at Kakni of Tarakanda in Phulpur upazila. The deceased are identified as Shahnaz, 26, of Kakni village and an assistant teacher of Kashiganj Fatehpur Govt Primary School and Yaqub Ali, of village Gobindapur in Phulpur and Jamal Uddin, 40, of Haluaghat upazila. The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and Phulpur Upazila Health Complex. In another accident, a woman was killed as a bus crushed her on Achintapur-Gouripur road at Achintapur in Gouripur upazila yesterday. The deceased is Feroza Khatun, 45, wife of Shamsher Ali of village Mohisaran of Gouripur. Our Tangail correspondent says: A housewife was crushed under the wheels of a bus and her husband and son were injured as the bus hit their motorcycle and she fell from the running motorcycle at Ichhapur in Kalihati upazila yesterday. The victim is Shewly Begum, 25, wife of Suruj Ali of Lawgram village in Ghatail upazila. UNB from Benapole adds: A young man was run over and killed by a speeding truck while he was crossing Benapole-Jessore road at Navaran Bazar in Sharsha upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Selim Hossain, 30, son of Nur Mohammad of the upazila. UNB from Comilla says: Three people were killed as a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Gazipur in Daudkandi upazila yesterday. Two of the deceased were identified as Hafez Sadek, 45, son of Yakub Ali, and Mahbubul Haque, 50, son of Saifuddin, of Sendi village in the upazila. The identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.
