Threat to withdraw case

Family members of Shanchita Khatun, who killed herself following "foul play" by her schoolteacher, yesterday revealed at a human chain in Tanore that they are under threat for withdrawing the suicide provocation case. Local people formed the human chain at the upazila headquarters demanding immediate arrest of the accused Mokhlesur Rahman, the headmaster of Chanduria Abu Bakar High School. They also submitted a memorandum to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) demanding security to the victim's family as, the relatives of the accused are threatening for withdrawing the case. Different local rights organisations including Broti and Adibashi Shangskritik Shangstha organised the demonstration. Shanchita, daughter of late Boyen Uddin and Rashida Bewa of Juranpur village, was a class IX student of Abu Bakar High School. She committed suicide on June 1.
