Cancellation of setting up deep tube wells demanded
Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (Bapa), Khulna city unit, yesterday demanded cancellation of a Khulna Wasa initiative that would allow setting up private deep tube wells in the city for a fee of Tk 10,000.
Advocate Firoz Ahmed, convenor of Khulna unit of Bapa in written statement, said private deep tube wells will push underground water deeper in the ground and create environmental hazards including landslide.
He demanded water from the Golamari River should be treated and provided to the city dwellers instead of drawing water from underground.
