e-governance to help build democratic institution

Says Bangladesh envoy to US
Bss, Dhaka
Bangladesh Ambassador to the US Akramul Qader has said e-governance can serve as a strategic tool in attaining goals of democratic-institution building. “Bangladesh's development partners might focus on 'e-governance' as a strategic tool in their country's assistance programmes since modern ICTs can simultaneously enhance government's efficiency and productivity and strengthen the process of accountable and democratic governance,” he said while he was addressing the swearing-in ceremony for Richard Greene, the newly appointed Mission Director of USAID Bangladesh, held on Wednesday at the USAID office in Washington. Apart from e-governance, the two other most vital sectors in which technical assistance from Bangladesh's development partners are critical are: Capacity building for food standard testing organisations and technical education to expand Bangladesh's overseas employment sector, Qader added. USAID Administrator Dr Rajiv Shah mentioned that Bangladesh stands as a role model in attaining his organisation's global aims in multiple sectors including nutrition, food security, disaster management and people's empowerment. Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan Mozena and other senior USAID officials attended the swearing-in ceremony.
