Police say ex-BNP MP Shaheen not involved
Iswarganj police have submitted investigation report on the extortion case against former lawmaker and Iswarganj upazila BNP president Shah Nurul Kabir Shaheen.
Md. Abdul Halim, former headmaster of Uchakhila Higher Secondary School in Iswarganj filed the case with a magistrate court.
Seven others were also sued in the case filed on June 18. They are Md. Mohar Ali, Shamsul Haque, Kazi Morsheduzzaman, Md. Aminul Haque, Md. Emdadul Haque, Md. Abdus Salam and Tobarak Hossain Manik.
When contacted, officer-in-charge of Iswarganj police station Abdul Gani and investigation officer of the case told the Daily Star that he found no evidence of Shaheen's involvement in extortion as alleged by Hamil.
In his complaint, Abdul Halim said he joined Uchakhila High School as headmaster on March 11, 2002 and under his leadership the school made good results in SSC examinations.
Abdul Halim alleged that in 2004, the then lawmaker Shaheen was annoyed with him as his men were not included in the school managing committee.
The plaintiff also said that on October 21, 2005, the managing committee decided to upgrade the school to a college and introduce HSC section. He was made principal of the institution, Halim said in the complaint.
Some days later, BNP activists loyal to the former lawmaker demanded Tk five lakh from him, Halim alleged. On November 24, 2005, he was called to the house of Shaheen where the then lawmaker asked him to pay Tk four lakh.
On October 25, 2005, he handed over Tk one lakh to Shaheen, who gave him three months' time to pay the rest Tk 3 lakh, the complainant alleged. As he could not pay the rest amount, he was suspended on April 2 last year, Halim alleged.
