Foreign secretaries meet today

The full range of bilateral issues will be discussed at the annual India-Bangladesh Foreign Office Consultations to be held in New Delhi today. Agreement on Teesta river, Tipaimukh dam, trade imbalance, demarcation of boundary, exchange of enclaves and adverse possession territories, and killing in the border will be on top of the agenda at the foreign secretary-level meeting. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes and his Indian counterpart Ranjan Mathai will lead the delegations of their respective countries at the consultation. Foreign ministry officials said the two foreign secretaries have no specific agenda of discussion and will hold talks on the full range of bilateral issues. They will hold detailed discussions on all aspects of the India-Bangladesh relationship, and, in particular, they are expected to focus on the follow up to decisions taken during the visit of the Bangladeshi prime minister to India in January 2010, the visit of the Indian prime minister to Bangladesh in September 2011, and the first meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) held in New Delhi in May 2012. The foreign secretaries will also gauge the progress made in their engagement across the whole range of issues, including political, defence, trade and investment, renewable and nuclear energy, water resources, connectivity, said Indian High Commission in Dhaka sources.
