According to prosecution, the bodies of social activist Shaheda Aktar Mili, 35, and her housemaid Honufa, 15, were recovered from Mili's house in the same area on February 28 night in 2011. The next day, Mili's elder brother, Abul Kashem, filed a case, accusing unknown assailants, with Kotwali Police Station. Later, police caught Maleque from his house as suspect. He, later, confessed to the killing. Maleque admitted that he borrowed Tk 30,000 from Mili. As he did not repay the money, Mili quarrelled with him on February 22 night. At one stage, Maleque killed her with a sharp weapon. As Honufa came to save her, he stabbed her too to death.
