3 killed, 12 injured in road crashes
Three people were killed and twelve others injured in separate road accidents in Jessore, Sirajganj, Rajshahi and Chittagong yesterday.
A correspondent from Jessore reports, two youths died as a pick-up van hit a motorcycle they were riding from the opposite direction in Laujani area of Jhikargachha upazila on Jessore-Benapole road yesterday noon.
They are Idris Ali and Ismail Hossain Liton.
Following the accident, agitating locals blocked the road for one hour.
In Sirajganj, an unidentified woman, aged around 45 years, was killed instantly as a truck ran over her on Bogra-Nagarbari highway at Dathiadighar in Raiganj upazila yesterday.
In Rajshahi, nine people, including seven members of Bangladesh Army, were injured as a military truck, after losing control, hit a tree and fell into a roadside ditch in Biraldaha area of Puthia upazila yesterday.
Of the injured, five are Bashar, army sergeant; Kamal, Mokaddesh and Yusuf, soldiers; Mainul Islam and Aslam Hossain, contractors.
They were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while the others to Bogra Combined Military Hospital.
In Chittagong, a sand-laden truck crashed into a roadside semi-pucca house in Jhautala area of the city in the early hours of yesterday, injuring three people while they were asleep and damaging some portion of the house and its valuables.
The injured are the house owner Alaudin, 55, his younger son Rasel, 17, and daughter-in-law Ruma Begum, 26.
