Paper mill fined Tk 15 lakh
Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined a paper mill Tk 15 lakh at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj for polluting the Shitalakkhya by discharging liquid wastes in it.
Papertech Industries Ltd has been running its activities for years without clearance certificate from the DoE and effluent treatment plant (ETP), said the DoE Director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.
The DoE officials detected that the factory had discharged 9.36 crore litre liquid wastes into the river in the last six months.
