Climate Change Challenges
PM seeks UK support
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the UK government to give due response to the climate change challenges of the countries like Bangladesh to help break the nexus among vulnerability, marginalisation and underdevelopment.
"The countries vulnerable to climate change needs UK's support to pronounce their concerns at global level," she said, adding operation of the global adaptation fund and the green climate fund should be more quick and responsive.
The prime minister made the remarks when British Secretary of State for Climate Change Edward Davey, MP called on her at her hotel suite here on Saturday.
PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the prime minister urged the British minister to support power generation in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina said though Bangladesh has very negligible contribution to carbon pollution, the country is suffering the most. "Bangladesh and other climate vulnerable countries are suffering from environmental injustice," she added.
She emphasised collaboration with Britain in public health and agriculture sector, particularly in research areas.
British minister Edward Davey informed Hasina that his government is pursuing a plan to reduce global carbon emission by 30 percent by 2020.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin and Bangladesh High Commissioner in London Dr Sayeedur Rahman Khan were present.
Earlier, the leaders of All European Awami League and All European Bangabandhu Parishad called on Shekh Hasina at her hotel suite.
