Probe body finishes interviews
A three-member committee investigating a Tk 14.5 lakh misappropriation by the leaders of CBA, an elected body of employees, at Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution Systems Ltd (JGTDSL), yesterday finished interviewing the officers and employees of the state-run company.
The probe committee of Petrobangla headed by Senior General Manager (accounts) Md Abdul Khaleque was formed on July 22 and asked to submit the report within seven working days.
As per JGTDSL rules, five per cent profit goes to the staff every year. Accordingly, Tk 2.79 crore was deposited in the "workers profit participation fund" for 348 officers and 272 employees this year. Each of them was to get Tk 45,000.
But some CBA leaders in connivance with some officers arranged cash payment of the 272 employees and illegally deducted Tk 10,000 from each of 145 recipient employees during disbursement. Each employee therefore got Tk 35,000 instead of Tk 45,000.
The disbursement was suspended following protest of a section of CBA men.
