Law soon to stop ads on infants' food

Urging media not to display any advertisement on infants' food, Health and Family Welfare Minister A F M Ruhal Haque yesterday said the government will enact a law soon barring such advertisements. People sometimes perceive the formulated foods as superior to breast milk seeing the advertisements on baby foods, he said, urging all to create awareness on breastfeeding. He made the comments at a press briefing held at his secretariat office in the capital marking the World Breastfeeding Week, 2012, starting today, with the slogan "Understanding the past - planning the future" this year. The minister also urged all private organisations to follow the government instruction on maternity leave period for six months.
