Deans' elections to four faculties at JU today
The Jahangirnagar University authorities will hold deans' elections to four out of six faculties today, with a total of 463 teachers expected to vote.
The polling will be held at Teachers' Club from 9:00am to 1:30pm.
Eight candidates from two opposing panels--"Samonnito Shikkhak Parishad" and "Bangabandhur Adorsho O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Shikkhak Samaj"--will contest in the polls. There is no independent candidate.
Pro-Awami League (AL) candidates Prof Sajed Asraf Karim (social sciences faculty) and Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder (mathematical and physical sciences) and BNP-backed Prof Sayed Kamrul Ahsan (arts and humanities faculty) and Prof Shohel Rana (biological sciences faculty) have formed “Samonnito Shikkhak Parishad” panel following negotiations.
The opposing panel is backed by former vice chancellor Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir. Belonging to this pro-AL group are Prof Amir Hossen (social sciences faculty), Prof Ahemd Reja (arts and humanities faculty), Prof Abul Khayer (biological sciences faculty), and Prof Abul Hossain (mathematical and physical sciences faculty).
The elected deans to two remaining faculties--law and justice and business studies--are still to finish their term.
