Couple Murder
Two taken on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court placed two people on a three-day remand after police arrested and produced them before it yesterday over the murder of an elderly couple in their Dakkhinkhan residence in the capital on July 31.
The arrested are Asadullah, a neighbour who had a feud with the couple over a boundary wall and adjacent land, and Abdul Khaleque, owner of a tea shop near the couple's house.
Police said the killers strangled Mahmuda, 60, and hacked her husband Mohammad Nasir Uddin, 70, a retired warrant officer of Bangladesh Army, to death. They were the only residents in their one-storied tin-shed house.
Police said the incident was unlikely to be of a robbery as the victims' relatives did not complain of anything going missing from the house.
