Says Mirza Fakhrul

Sheikh Hasina would not be allowed to participate in the next parliamentary election while holding the post of the prime minister, said BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday. “BNP believes in dialogues. We can sit to discuss about the caretaker government's head if the present government agrees in principle to hold the next election under a neutral administration,” he said. Fakhrul was addressing a demonstration organised by BNP's Dhaka unit in Nayapaltan protesting the charge framing against top opposition leaders, including Fakhrul, in an arson case. The programme started around 10:00am on the road in front of BNP's central office, causing huge traffic congestion at Nayapaltan and its adjacent areas. Fakhrul reiterated that the next parliamentary election must be held under a non-party neutral government as “people here do not trust each other”. Over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent proposal for a small cabinet, formed with the opposition, to oversee the next parliamentary election, Fakhrul said Hasina had rejected the same proposal given by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in 1996.
