6 of fake NGO sent to jail for swindling Tk 6cr

Six persons of a fake NGO, caught for cheating people in the name of giving autorickshaws at lower price, were sent to jail hajat here yesterday. Rapid Action battalion (Rab) caught them Tuesday night from Ganganagar area in South Surma upazila and handed over them to police. They were produced before a court, which sent them to jail. The arrestees are, chairperson of Agragami Bahumukhi Nari Unnayan Sangstha Syeda Luthfunnahar of Bahadurpur, Beanibazar, Sylhet; its managing director Md Kamal Uddin of Chhota Badarkhali of Barguna; manager Mrinal Kanti Roy of Dariarkul village in Tungipara of Gopalganj and advisors Ali Ahsan Ruhin of Kushighat, Dakshin Surma, Sylhet; Md. Abu Sayeed of Ganganagar, Sylhet and Kabir Ahmed of Chowkidekhi, Sylhet city. Police said, the areestes and other officials of the organisation realised over Tk 6 crore from people in the name of giving 4-stroke autorickshaws at Tk one lakh each. But none got it even several years after payment. They also collected money in the name of DPS (deposit pension scheme), double amounts after a year. The so-called organisation opened a well decorated office at a house at Ganaganagar area in the city and began their work years ago, police said.
