Rapist gets 40 years RI
A person has been sentenced to 40 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) on charge of raping a minor girl and causing abortion.
Judge of women and children repression prevention tribunal Rokeya Begum pronounced this verdict on Thursday.
The convict, Shahidul Islam of Andulia village under Harinakundo upazila in Jhenidah, was also fined Tk 6,000 in default he will have to suffer 18 months more in jail
Shahidul Islam raped a 14-year-old girl of the village when she went to pluck mangoes by the side of their house at dawn, goes the prosecution.
Shahidul Islam tried to keep the matter secret saying that he will marry her. Meanwhile, the girl became pregnant and Shahidul got her child aborted at a clinic five months later. He also declined to marry her.
