During the last few days, there have been doubts and disbelief among the politicians about holding of national election on time. Some of the leaders are very much sceptical about the sincerity of the present EC, despite the fact that the Hon'ble Chief Adviser and the Army Chief are repeatedly saying that the national election will be held as per the roadmap and definitely within 2008. The international community, especially the USA, EU and other donors and development partners are pressing this government to hold election with participation of all major parties. The present CTG has also apprised the international community of its positive intentions. Why then the country's leaders are so much sceptical about it? What do they want then? Instead of assisting the present CTG for creating the atmosphere for a peaceful election, some of these leaders are talking about a non-elected national government, boycott, agitation etc. and some are demanding resignation of the present EC. We are confused about our leaders. These leaders are more comfortable in troubled election than a free and fair election because they are doubtful about their own acceptability among the people and prefer chaos, not peaceful election. We observe that some leaders are demanding the release of the leaders of their rival parties who were their arch enemies a few days ago and were trying to annihilate them by throwing bombs. What a change of attitude of these leaders and politicians? We heard the clarion call of their leader saying in a public meeting just before the "one-eleven" change-- "Break the hands of those opposition leaders so that they can never ask for votes from the people". As if they were the sole owners of the 15 crore people! What are they doing now? Now we find them helpless and feeble. They want to go back to their own brand of days where unlimited corruption, extortion, grabbing of land, commissions from foreign investors could go their way. The people have seen the real faces of these leaders and will not join them for any sort of agitation or hartals, at least in the near future. The leaders of all political parties, irrespective of size, should lend their support to the present CTG to hold a free, fair and credible election for a better future of our motherland.
