Love and respect for martyrs

I went to local Shaheed Minar (Martyrs' Monument) very early in the morning on Feb 21. I was overwhelmed seeing a lot of people including men, women and children at the monument. It was nice to see rallies arranged by different political parties, cultural organisations, clubs, institutions, schools and colleges coming one by one in a disciplined way to show their love and respect to those who embraced martyrdom to establish our mother tongue "Bangla" and uphold its dignity. It is good to think that people still remember the martyrs and have love and respect for them. But, I think many like me are haunted by a question-- is this all? Many men and women who took part in the Language Movement and the war of independence are still alive. Unfortunately, most of them have not even been recognised and honoured by the state and the people. They are leading a very precarious life. Let's listen to what our conscience says.
