HR report: why from the US?

MAS Molla, BAAS, Dhaka

Many countries have good, some have bad and some may have even worse records of human rights. Somebody needs to look into the matter globally. Is there any internationally recognized legal framework to see and deal with the human rights situation all over the world? Yes, the world now does have the Human Rights Council of the United Nations! Then who is the US to reveal other countries' human rights situation? Isn't it a single sovereign state like our poor Bangladesh, Kenya or Myanmar or the rich Norway, Japan or the UK? The US itself has very bad human rights records internationally. How do the Palestinians feel at Israeli atrocities clearly patronized by the US? How much 'democracy' are the Iraqi people enjoying now? Are the Afghans living in mundane heaven after the US 'rescued' them from Taliban governance? Was the US military torture in Guantanamo Bay and in Abu Ghraib 'sweeter than honey' to the recipient humans? Was the US military abuse ('rape' in plain word) of Japanese girls welcome to them and the Japanese nation? Let us forget all the past inhuman acts of the US and shut our eyes also from what this state is planning or doing at present. Let us look into the single act of collecting data on others' human rights situation, preparing a report and publishing that on the part of a single state. Is it not a clear violation of equal human rights of us all and a sheer dishonour to the UNHRC? The US must stop this nuisance forthwith. The US has been practicing this for quite a long time. The state may feel uneasy at sudden ending of its undue privilege of doing this. Everybody knows the US has long hands to enter into the UNO and use this world body for their ends. So being a part of the UN system, this state can use their expertise in collecting human rights data from every state. In this way the 'police state' can have some policing on others at least 'wearing shorts' (the UNHRC being that dress) unlike the present totally naked posture. Inside the UNHRC, the US cannot do anything unilaterally; the report would have check and balance by others. If the US still fails to realise the truth, the international community can do two things. One way can be a total rejection of the US state department's human rights reports by every state individually. China has boldly stated its position but did not clearly reject the report. If China can reject this unauthorized 'human rights report' and some other bigger and powerful countries like the Russian Federation, Japan, India etc. follow, all others can do that in succession. If the world can help that happen, the US would be bound to stop expressing 'holier than thou” attitude towards others, thus making the sovereign states respectful to each other. The UN itself also can do something to establish its due respect and authority over every single state. At present the UNHRC is in its 7th session in Geneva since March 3 and this session will end today. The general debates are scheduled for the 4th week of this four-week session. The general debate was scheduled to make final decisions and conclusions on March 27. All the nations can participate in the general debates denouncing the violation of human rights by the US through its unauthorized publication of the so-called “report on human rights”.
