I am not against the cultural practices on 'Pahela Baishakh'. But when I see people lining up in OMS (Open Market Sale) outlets to ensure food for their hungry family members and at the same time crowd overflowing the shopping complexes and buying designer wears to satisfy their so called sophisticated mind to celebrate the Bangla New Year, I feel disturbed. The recent price spirals did not touch the rich. The huge gap between the two classes the 'affluent' and the 'poor' if we classify them into only two slots, adding the middle-class to the latter, is getting wider and wider. We must understand that this difference is a problem that will upset the social equilibrium.
