Salute the hero

M Jahangir Kabir, Dhaka
With much grief and sadness we heard the news of another tragic accident at Tangail. Our prayers are for the departed souls and we wish speedy recovery of the injured. However, one piece of news, aptly put out in bold by your newspaper, drew my attention-- the action and the wonderful display of presence of mind by a constable, Mr Khalilur Rahman. His heroic act prevented another tragedy and loss of many more lives. These isolated acts of bravery by our law enforcers need to be given due recognition. Constable Khalil needs immediate recognition and reward not only by the government but also by the civil society who very often claim to be the conscience of the nation. Also, I would request organisations like Transparency International to take into cognisance the good and positive deed of the constable and prove that there is always recognition and respect for good deeds.
