Consumption of potatoes

Momtaj Jahan, Fulbari, Sylhet
There has been a bumper production of potatoes this season in Bangladesh, which is no doubt good news at a time when we are passing through a period of acute food crisis. The army chief has been rightly urging the people to consume more potatoes in the interest of farmers as well as the nation. Here I want to make a humble suggestion. In the army dining halls thousands of troops have their lunch and dinner. If potato is cooked as a vegetable at least in one meal for the next three or four months a large quantity can be consumed, which will be a big help to the growers. Urban consumers should also increase their consumption of potatoes with that end in view.
