Diarrhoea spreads in Bandarban
One killed, many attacked
One person was killed yesterday and many others were attacked with diarrhoea as the disease spread in Royangchhari and Sadar upazilas in Bandarban.
To tackle the situation, a special medical team was dispatched to Monjai Para in Royangchhari Friday evening. The team provided medical services to 20 patients while five others were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital as their condition was serious, said sources at the health department.
Another medical team was sent to remote Hepy Gopai Para where one person died of diarrhoea, said the acting civil surgeon of Bandarban. But the victim could not be identified.
The disease spread as people use river water for drinking and household work, doctors said.
High temperature in last few days has also contributed to spread of the disease, the said.
Locals said diarrhoea outbreak has become a yearly matter due to unavailability of pure water in absence of sufficient tube-wells.
