3 PWs examined in case against ex-BNP MP Shafi

Three prosecution witnesses were cross-examined yesterday in the relief goods misappropriation case against former BNP lawmaker Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury. Speedy Trial Magistrate Devjit Sinha recorded statements of Ali Haider, Rumel Ahmed and Matiur Rahman, court sources said. Complainant of the case Sub Inspector Tarequzzaman was also cross-examined yesterday by lawyers of Shafi Chowdhury. Cross-examination of other PWs will be held today, the sources said. Earlier, on September 18, the same court sent the former lawmaker to jail hajat on his surrender after remaining absconding since filing of the case on February 18. Dakshin Surma police station in Sylhet Sadar filed the case against Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury and another person after joint forces recovered relief materials including CI sheets, biscuits and other items from his village house on the night of February 17 this year. The other accused is Selim Ahmed, Shafi's neighbour and an employee of Pubali Bank. Selim is in jail hajat.
