University admission test
A few days ago, the ministry of education took the decision to withdraw the provision of university admission test after HSC exams with the VCs of 29 universities and chairman of the UGC from 2010-2011 academic year.
I think it will have a detrimental and negative impact on the education system of our country. We see a huge number of students passing HSC with GPA-5 every year, but a handful of them get admitted to public universities. Firstly, the decision makers have to find an answer to this question, why the rest of the GPA-5 holders don't get chance in public universities. This is the moot point.
Besides, most of our students of SSC and HSC levels still want the easiest way to succeed. They read notes and guides available in the market. They follow short suggestions of their teachers too. When they find the questions that they can answer, they get GPA-5.
After passing the HSC, most of these GPA-5 holders fail to get admission in universities as they are not prepared to pass the admission test.
On the other hand, students having better general knowledge and command over language usually do better in admission tests. The education authorities should attach due importance to the matter.
