'12 lakh in B'baria carry TB germ'
A staggering 12 lakh people of some 29 lakh population in Brahmanbaria district are carrying tuberculosis (TB) germ, said speakers at a roundtable conference Tuesday.
Densely populated areas, especially slums areas, of our country are producing TB germs, while malnutrition adds to the problem, speakers said at the conference jointly organised by Brahmanbaria Press Club and Brac at Brahmanbaria Zila Parishad Auditorium.
Dr Bashir Ahmed, junior consultant of Brahmanbaria Chest Disease Hospital and Mahmuda Yeasmin, social communicator of Brac, read out two key-note papers at the conference.
Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Hai was the chief guest at the roundtable chaired by Civil Surgeon Md Shahid Uddin.
Brahmanbaria Pourasabha Chairman Md Hafizur Rahman Mulla Kachi, Deputy Director of Brahmanbaria Family Planning Department Sankar Lal Baroy, Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Md Jahirul Islam Chowdhury and consultant of World Health Organigation Dr Sanjib Kumar Das also spoke.
