EC team due in Khulna today for probe

A high level team from the Chief Election Commissioner's office if expected to arrive Khulna today or tomorrow to probe the allegation of enrollment of some Indian nationals on the new voter list. According to sources in Khulna district election office, the team will also visit some other districts in south-western region and hold meetings with election officials to make them cautious so that no foreign national is enrolled as voter in any way. The team is being sent from Dhaka following an allegation that 45 Indian nationals managed to enroll their names on the voters' list in different wards of Khulna city during voter registration with photograph that concluded on September 19. The registrations were done in Khulna City Corporation wards no. 25, 26, 27 and 28, sourcves said. The matter was known later when some local people complained to district election office and police. Police arrested an Indian national from Banargati area in the city for enrolling his name on voter list at Khulna Shahid Shurwardy College centre. He was identified as Moheshwar Bairagi, hailing from 24 Pargana district of West Bengal. During his arrest from his relative's house, police also recovered documents showing that Moheshwar Bairagi was a voter in Hawra Pourasabha in West Bengal, police said. After Bairagi's arrest, District Election Officer Mujibar Rahman filed a case with Sonadanga police station.
