Cost-cutting in Durga Puja to help flood victims
The Barisal district branch of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, has decided to curtail expenditures for observance of Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, as a gesture of charity to the flood victims.
The money saved through spending less for decorations, gates, pandels, electrifications, cultural functions and other purposes will be donated to the relief funds for the flood-affected people, said Rakhal Chandra Dey and Manik Mukharjee Kudu, newly elected president and secretary of the 71-member district puja udjapon parishad.
Preparations for Durga Puja and making of idols of the deities are going on in full swing in about 360 private and public Mandops of the district, they said.
