Workers postpone agitation as lay-off withdrawal assured
Workers of laid-off Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills (PJJM) postponed their agitation programme following assurance by the mill management to withdraw the lay-off notice by Tuesday or Wednesday next.
The decision was taken at a tripartite meeting held Tuesday afternoon, held at the office of Project Driector Md Mohiuddin.
The meeting was attended by officials of PJJM, CBA leaders and officials of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
The Project Director who left for Dhaka Tuesday night for talks with Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) chairman said that lay-off benefit would be given to workers after withdrawal of the notice.
A total of 215 workers of the carpet baking cloth (CBC) section of PJJM were laid-off for one month with effect from September 25.
The management of the mill had no alternative to resolving the dispute as a group of laid-off workers assembled in front of the project director's office on Tuesday demanding withdrawal of the lay-off notice, said president of PJJM workers union Delwar Hossain.
