The RMG workers are the worst sufferers, most neglected and deprived of their basic rights. Like many who both regard and treat them as sub-humans, the government without protecting them from maltreatment, oppression and discrimination, takes and also asks the owners of the garments to take tough action against those who raise their voices against the gross injustice and persecution that the workers face on a regular basis. The government should shun the way of bringing them into submission through persecution and oppression by the law enforcing agencies; rather they should sit with the garment owners to negotiate the issues leading to recurrent demonstrations, as the trade unions are inoperative and dysfunctional due to the imposed ban. The government and the garment owners should bear in mind that the RMG, the biggest foreign exchange earner of the country, is the backbone of our economy.
