CTG and two major parties

Dr Zillur Rahman was in Washington to discuss and find out ways and means to hold a dialogue between Khaleda and Hasina. We did not know what exactly he would discuss in Washington, but one thing our readers can be assured of is that he might be making his last attempt to salvage the CTG's plan of a "National Charter", now redefined as "Policy Summit' agenda. It was initially raised and failed to proceed due to opposition of the political parties. I do not understand why the CTG is taking the responsibility of dictating the election manifesto of the political parties. The political parties are accountable to the people and responsible to them and would announce their election manifesto which would definitely include the economic, political and social development perspectives of each political party. Why does the CTG want to dictate the same and introduce a kind of guided democratic system whose success will always depend on the behaviour and likings of a third party? We do not know whom Dr Rahman represents, at least he is not the representative of the people or any political party. Dr Rahman is a highly educated man and has some achievements in his research fields. We know he is an anthropologist cum economist. His job should be to point out the mistakes of the government as a neutral researcher, not a protagonist of the government plan not supported by the majority in Bangladesh. I have no idea how Dr Rahman can regain his neutral position and serve the country with his ideas. We hope he would disassociate himself from any political adventurism.
