First move after her release
Does it bode well for democracy that the BNP's first move after the release of their party leader was to swear unending fealty and declare her their leader for life? She most graciously declined the honour of course, after all there is Sonia Gandhi's example to be followed, or perhaps she too thought it was a little too much.
My question to you and to the many minds out there that are superior to mine: Isn't it true that a party can't be a credible actor in a democratic playing field if it is ready to be totally undemocratic in its own affairs? Why has there been no reaction to this? What actually happened to all the proposals for reforming the political process and party mechanisms that we were hearing about in 2007?
Can anyone educate me, please?
