Case revived after 10 yrs, Jubo Dal leader prime accused
The sensational BNP leader Altaf murder case has been revived in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) on recommendation of District and Sessions Judge Md. Shafiuddin.
Former general secretary of Khulna Jubo Dal Tariqul Islam has been shown arrested as the prime accused in the case, revived on Sunday.
Tariqul Islam was arrested on July 2 by joint forces from his residence in the city. On July 19, Tariqul made a statement before metropolitan magistrate Shefina Begum under Section 164 CrPc, confessing to his involvement in the murder of BNP leader Altaf Hossain.
Altaf was murdered on the night of July 12, 1995 at Natun Bazar under Khulna Sadar police station.
Sub Inspector Keshab Chakravarty of Khulna Sadar police station has been made investigating officer (IO) of the case after its revival.
After the murder, slain BNP leader's wife Shahab Altaf lodged an FIR with Khulna thana on July 13, 1995 naming 12 persons as accused. After the murder, the killers gouged out eyed of Altaf, cut off his tendons and private organ.
Jubo Dal leader Tarikul Islam, named in the FIR as the prime accused, was left out of the charge sheet earlier allegedly due to political influence.
The charge sheet was prepared by IO of the case in March, 1996.
