AL leader held for 'extortion'
Detective Branch (DB) arrested Khoksa upazila Awami League (AL) president Sadar Uddin Khan, also a former upazila chairman, on Friday midnight.
The court sent Sadar to jail after police produced him before the court on Saturday.
Sadar Khan was arrested following an extortion case filed by Maqbul Master, another AL leader in the upazila, police said.
In the case filed with Khoksa Police Station several days ago, Maqbul alleged that Sadar Khan demanded Tk 2 lakh from him two years ago.
He paid Tk 1 lakh but Sadar continued to threat him with dire consequences in case of failure to pay the rest of the money, he added.
