311 legalise Tk 3.66cr income in Moulvibazar
Scores with undeclared income yet to be detected, officials say
As many as 311 people have legalised their undeclared Tk 3 crore 66 lakh income in the entire district.
Taking advantage of flexibility of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the defaulters paid tk 1 crore 73 lakh as tax for the purpose. They included businessmen, physicians, lawyers and expatriates.
But, it was learnt from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes of Sylhet, the number of defaulting businessmen and expatriates would be much more.
A large number of people of the district live in USA, UK, Canada and the Middle Eastern countries.
Besides, the district has forest resources. Local people said, a large number of people who were involvement in politics became rich by trading with forest resource in the last 15 years.
Others have become moneyed persons with their involvement in money laundering. Many of them did not legalise their undisclosed money, said an income tax official.
