PW Prof Islam declared 'hostile'
Rajshahi speedy trial court yesterday recorded deposition of the tenth prosecution witness (PW) in the case against six Rajshahi University teachers for violating the Emergency Power Rules 2007.
The PW, Prof M Khademul Islam, chairman of mass communication department of RU, was however, declared 'hostile' at the court following the prayer of court sub-inspector Shamsul Islam.
The PW had stated before the court that he did not know the plaintiff and neither did he know anything about involvement of the teachers in the alleged incidents.
The six accused teachers -- former RU vice chancellor Dr M Saidur Rahman Khan, syndicate member Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Moloy Bhoumik, Dulal Chandra Biswas, Sayed Selim Reza Newton and Abdullah Al Mamun -- were also produced before the court.
The teachers were charged for violating the EPR through holding protest procession, observing strike and instigating the late August campus violence.
Former officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station Khondoker Ferdous Alam lodged the case against three teachers on August 26.
Later on September 1, investigation officer in the case, sub-inspector Nasir Uddin Mondol pressed charges against six teachers and the court framed charges on September 17.
