Slum dwellers
It drew our attention that “Court permission will be required to evict slums, a private bill by Saber Hossain Chowdhury” published in The Daily Prothom Alo on 24 February. We express our deep gratitude to the member of parliament, Saber Hossain Chowdhury for tabling such a Bill. We express our full support to the initiative.
According to the news report, in the Bill it is said that slum eviction is to be done through proper rehabilitation considering the transparency and human rights issues. In this case court permission will be required for slum eviction. The Nagar Daridra Basteebashir Unnayan Sangatha sincerely wants to inform the policymakers that slum dwellers are an important driving force for the city and these people live in slums fighting against various constraints.
We hope inhuman slum evictions will be stopped for ever.
