A good response from voters was observed as the task of preparing voter lists with photograph and national identity (NID) card began in Tangail town yesterday. In Chittagong, Bandarban and Rangati, enumerators from election offices started door to door visits to collect information for voter listing. Maj Gen AKM Mujahiduddin formally inaugurated the programme at Bindubasini Boys High School in Tangail, our correspondent reports. A large number of voters including females started coming to the registration centres from the morning as voter registration started at 25 centres in wards No 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, and 13. The task will continue till October 27 while the work in five other wards -- No 14,15,16,17, and 18 -- will be done from October 28 to November 2. A total of 2,58,848 voters in Sadar upazila have already filled up the voter registration forms after preliminary works for the much-awaited voter listing in the municipality and Sadar upazila began on October 6, district election officials said. The registration will run till November 21. The task of data collection for preparing voter list with photograph and national identity cards began in Chittagong city yesterday, reports our Chittagong correspondent. The filed level enumerators started visiting door to door in almost each of the 41 wards under Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) to collect information of the eligible voters. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ashraf Shamim inaugurated the voter-listing task through releasing balloons at a ceremony organised by Election Working Group on the premises of Zila Parishad at around 10:30am. Later a colourful procession was brought out where a people from different sections participated carrying placards. A total of 4897 field level enumerators working under over 800 supervisors will conduct the data collection task, said sources in the District Election Office. The programme was officially opened by taking information, signature and finger print of the deputy commissioner of Bandarban district yesterday morning. Our Rangamati correspondent adds: Data collection of voters as part of preparing voter list with photographs and national identity cards in Sadar upazila and municipal areas in Rangamati began yesterday. The enumerators started field level work for collecting necessary information from the eligible voters while Green Hill, a local NGO, has arranged announcement through loudspeakers to inspire the residents of the town to provide their data for voter registration. A total of 335 enumerators and 79 supervisors have been appointed for the purpose. Besides, data entry operators, proofreaders and computer operators will be appointed within this month, DEO office sources said.
