The house at Mainul Road
Though living far away from home, I keep monitoring all the events in the country. I sincerely hope that the ex-PM, Begum Khaleda Zia will leave the house honourably before being evicted forcefully. I would like to present three good reasons for my expectation:
1. After the assassination of President Zia, this house at Mainul Road was allotted to his family with two minor children by the then president A. Sattar on humanitarian grounds. But Begum Zia with her two rich sons is very rich now!
2. The house is located in the Cantonment area which should be out of the reach of politics.
3. According to the existing law, no person should be allowed even two plots in the govt. controlled residential areas, not to speak of two houses.
So, I think it will be a very wise decision for her to vacate the house and not create a political turmoil in the country.
But, I believe she should be allowed to approach the court for the final decision.

The BNP has got an issue to wake up after the post election hibernation, thanks to the AL and its leaders. Now the BNP and its auxiliaries are planning to start some political agitation on this issue. But will the people participate in agitation for an issue which in no way affects their lives? Ziaur Rahman was not killed in this house. During his long service tenure he resided in many such houses. Should all these be kept as his memorial? Chittagong Circuit House, where he was assassinated, has already been converted into a museum in his memory. Has not the nation shown enough respect for this freedom fighter turned president ?
Madam Khaleda Zia and her two sons have got enough from this nation. Shouldn't they start returning back some?
