Landmark decision

We do admire the decision of the government on reducing fees and one stop service in land registration. The present government, out of many action plans, took a wise and beneficial decision for both the common people and the government in terms of disclosing facts and better revenue collection as well. At present, a 14-18 per cent registration fee is charged on the total price of the land. For instance, Tk 14 to 18 lakh has to be paid in registration for a piece of land bought for Tk 1 crore. "If the fee is lowered, land buyers are less likely to provide false information, and the government will, eventually, realize more revenue," the Finance Minister said. The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting to cut the land registration process to a single phase from four separate steps . It is heartening to note that like other private institutions one stop service will be rendered by the government office. This will, indeed, be an admirable task of the present government. Now, the cabinet should approve the decision on a priority basis.
