Medicine purchase, foreign trips
Sircar spent Tk 1 crore for non-existing MPs (May 7, 2009) Philadelphia is only a few miles from Pennsylvania University . How could he spend $775 for travel? Did he rent a personal helicopter? Even renting a limousine won't cost that much!
Mahbub A complete investigation and legal proceedings are needed for such type of irregularities and misuse of power.
Kalam Azad Now, the first priority would be to stop recurrence of such events in the future. We have lost enough and we don't want to lose any more. The second priority is to recover as much money as possible. The third and most important is to mete out justice to all the defaulters.
Khan Jaker A nation must have some optimism, but for us it seems time is running out very fast!
Dr. Ishtiaq Hossain This is the time to establish justice. If the govt. fails to do that, people will have no more confidence in the state administration.
Majid Akand Legal action should be taken against the former speaker, deputy speaker and the former chief whip, if the charges brought against them are true. Nobody in the Republic, regardless of status or past position, should be above the law. There is no alternative to establishing Rule of Law in Bangladesh.
Kazi Salim It's really a shame to see corruption at that level. Hope to see investigation and judicial probe to all such crimes.
Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shame! Greed for power, money and wealth!! He should resign from parliament...
Paracelsus Joy Singha I feel sorry that we elected such people to our parliament, some of them more than once. Even after such shameful revelations how these people walk, talk and sometimes shout! Begum Zia hired one of them to speak in parliament again on behalf of her party. Sorry, Madam, I feel sorry for you too.

Proposed salaries to be slashed off a little (May 11, 2009)
The government should implement the proposed pay scale without further scrutiny. Because the government has enhanced all utility bills, transportation cost etc. without increasing salaries and allowances of the employees. But it will be very illogical to increase the retirement age. Rather, the government may enhance the retirement benefits.
M. B. Shahid This pay scale does not make any sense considering the BD economy. The lowest salary does make sense because an employee cannot live with the existing pay package. Does the Pay Commission know how to determine the pay scale and what factors need to be considered?
Duranta The government shouldn't slash off the salary of its employees. They are ill paid in comparison with the non-govt organisations. If they are paid less, then the brilliant students won't join the govt service. The ultimate loser will be the nation. Those who are against the proposed raise should at least think about the country's interest.
Jim The government will decide the final salary structure. But my opinion is that it will be helpful if the increment is increased. As an employee, I am ready to accept a low basic pay if the increment is high.
Masum Billah An increase in salary is essential for the government employees and at the same time the government should take pragmatic measures to increase the salary in the private sector also, because a salary increase in the public sector will cause a price hike of daily essentials.
Emranur Rahman Chowdhury I am working in a multinational company. How can government servants manage their families with this poor salary? Don't slash the proposed salaries. Salary increase to the desired level will, in turn, reduce corruption and increase efficiency.
Md. Abdullah The government officials are very poorly paid in the present economic context. And that is one of the causes behind corruption in the country.
Rana Nice to know about the salary hike for the govt. employees. This will surely lead to a price hike. So what about the private sector employees? Who will recommend a better salary for them?
