Cars for MPs
Reference: the government's decision to buy a car for each of the parliament members. I would like to draw the attention of the authorities as well as the readers to the following:
Buying 345 cars will cost at least Tk 200 crore. Forgetting the aspect of maintenance of these cars (which, if assessed properly would be a big a figure), do you think a country like Bangladesh should incur such a lavish spending of public money for mere transportation facility of people's representatives? In reply to my question a section of people may come up with an answer that the MPs are meant for peoples' welfare and the country's development. Well, if that is the answer, then what is wrong with the NRBs (Non Resident Bangladeshis), who are major contributors to strengthening of our country's economic backbone? Why are they being deprived of having the duty-free facility in buying a car at least once in lifetime? Logically speaking, NRBs' contribution to the country's development is far more valuable than that of most of the MPs. So far every government has shown a negative attitude towards this section of citizens, who are occasionally rewarded with nothing but plenty of oral admiration.
I would eagerly appreciate a serious consideration by the authorities on this issue, while requesting my fellow readers' opinions at the same time.
