Tangail ward commissioner held for 'drug trading'
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three people including a ward commissioner of Tangail municipality on charge of drug trading Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip off, a Rab team arrested Mohammad Shajahan alias Babu, 38, commissioner of ward No 2 under Tangail municipality, on midnight, Rab sources said.
Following his confession, Rab personnel raided the house of Mokbul Hossain of Brahmanshasan village in Ghatail upazila on the same night and recovered a local made pistol with two bullets and 10 bottles of phensidyl from there, they said.
They also arrested house owner Mokbul Hossain's son Sumon Siddiqui, 18, and daughter Suborna Siddiqui, 26, from there.
Later, Rab personnel handed over the three to Ghatail Police Station.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mosharaf Hossain of Rab-12 told The Daily Star that arrested ward commissioner Shajahan Babu is involved in drug trading and was using Sumon and Suborna for his illegal activities.
