Tangail Jubo Dal leader gets 10yrs RI

A Special Tribunal here yesterday sentenced a Jubo Dal leader and his cohort to ten years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in an arms case. The convicts are Rafiqul Islam Swapan, general secretary of town Jubo Dal unit, and Aminul Islam Sumon. They were also fined Tk 3,000 each, in default, to suffer three months RI more. Another accused, pourasava commissioner Hafizur Rahman Swapan alias Hatkata Swapan was acquitted from the case as allegation brought against him could not be proved. The joint forces arrested Rafiqul Islam Swapan from his residence at Akur Takurpara in the town on April 25. Following his statement, they later arrested Sumon along with a foreign-made shutter gun from the same area. After examining records and witnesses' statements, Special Tribunal Judge Mohammad Mohsin Mollah found them guilty and pronounced the judgement.
