Diarrhoea spreads in Mymensingh, C'nawabganj
Diarrhoea is spreading fast in Mymensingh and Chapainawab-ganj districts.
Our Mymensingh Correspondent reports: Diarrhoea attacked 311 people in 12 upazilas on Sunday.
Eighteen patients were admitted to Surja Kanta Hospital on the day.
However, no death was also reported, according to sources in Mymensingh civil surgeon (CS) and Surja Kanta Hospital (SKH).
Diarrhoea claimed five lives and attacked 2,400 others in 13 days in the district.
A severe crisis of Intravenous (IV) fluid was prevailing in the hospital since outbreak of the disease two weeks ago. Attendants of patients have to collect saline from outside the hospital. Poor patients are the worst sufferers.
A source in Surja Kanta Hospital said the outbreak of the disease all over the country at a time has attributed to the crisis of IV fluid.
But the hospital authorities denied reports of its crisis. Stock of saline and other medicine is enough to tackle the situation, they said.
A Correspondent from Chapainawabganj reports: The disease is spreading fast in Sadar and Shibganj upazilas.
Seven people died and over 4,731 others were attacked with the disease in the ongoing month. Of them, five patients died at Sadar hospital and two others at Shibganj Health Complex.
Sixty-four people were attacked with intestinal disease on Sunday. Of them, 37 were shifted to Sadar hospital, 16 to Shibganj Health Complex, four to Gomostapur Health Complex, two to Nachole Health Complex and five to Bholahat Health Complex, officials said.
On average, 40 patients are being admitted to Sadar hospital daily, they said. Rush of patients is higher at Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital and Shibganj Health Complex.
An army medical team lead by Colonel Shafiqul Islam visited Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital and Shibganj Health Complex recently.
Chapainawabganj civil surgeon office sources said all measures were taken to check spread of the disease. They also denied crisis of oral saline, IV fluid and other medicine. Sixty-four medical teams are working in the affected areas, they said.
Chapainawabganj Pourasabha has also taken measures to tackle the situation.
